•Origins (1883-1887): Built during Melbourne's prosperous "Marvellous Melbourne" era, the chamber was initially the head office and residence for the English, Scottish and Australia Chartered Bank (ES&A), an ANZ predecessor. The building's grand design, featuring Venetian Gothic style, reflected the bank's financial success.

•Architectural Marvel: Designed by prominent architects William Wardell and William Pitt, the chamber stuns with its ornate features. The lavish interior boasts a highly decorative ceiling, intricately carved wooden doors, and stonework adorned with 23-karat gold leaf.

•Former Residence: The residence above the banking hall, known as Verdon Chambers, offered a luxurious living space for the ES&A's General Manager. This unique combination of banking hall and residence serves as a historical reminder of the close ties between finance and high society.

•Stock Exchange Connection: In 1921, ES&A acquired the neighboring Stock Exchange building. Renovations in the 1980s created a seamless connection between the two structures, with the Gothic Bank retaining its grandeur.
