An economic downturn hit Melbourne in the 1890s and the YMCA was forced to sell. It was bought by the "Salvos" who have owned it ever since. The building contains probably the only hall in Melbourne with a barrel ceiling. Every world leader of the Salvation Army has spoken there except the current one. There is an historic film studio (Limelight Museum) which is arguably the oldest film studio still in existence in the world.
